What is an In-line Fan?

When people talk about fans, the very first things, which come into their minds are the stand fans or the ceiling fans. In fact, very few people talk about the wall mounted fans. Now, what about the inline fans? I bet, very few people know what this fan is. But, as a matter of fact, these fans are not as popular as the other three.

The in-line fans can be described as remote fans. They can boost airflow within a given area with negligible noise. There is no noise at either the intake or exhaust sections. They can be used in the ineffective dryer exhaust or bathroom fans. They are available in single-port or multi-port configurations.  This makes it a versatile equipment. That is, the single-port can be used to supply ventilation in a single room. On the other hand, the multi-port in-line fans can be used to provide ventilation in several rooms such as bathroom, kitchen and laundry.

The uses of in-line fans

1. These fans are used for general ventilation depending on the climate. That is, during hot and humid weather conditions, the exhaust only fans are used. On the other hand, during the cold weather conditions, the supply only are used to supply ventilation.
2. The in-line fans are also used in bathrooms. When they are placed in the attic, they’ll operate more quietly than the other types of fans such as the ceiling fans. In situations where the bathrooms are close together, it will be economical to use these types of fans.
3. They are used in the dryer vent boosting. These fans are effective when it comes to maintaining the efficiency and safety of the drier. This is crucial in situations where there is multi-family units and the duct length is longer than that recommend by the manufacturer. When these fans are installed, there will be no heat buildup.
4. Indoor air quality; these fans are used to inject fresh air in buildings, which are tightly sealed and highly insulated. The in-line fans are used in conjunction with the heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
5. The fans can be used during remodeling to boost the duct when the existing HVAC are used to heat and cool the additional rooms. They help to balance the air supply within the room.

Even though the in-line fans are effective, at times, back-drafting may occur. This is the situation where the exhaust only systems depressurizes a building. It can draw air into the building. In such situations, other safety measures can be used such as installing carbon dioxide detectors. Apart from this, this is a useful and handy type of fan that one should consider installing in homes.
